She's grieving, or so he's told in a hushed whisper from her asinine and somehow gleeful husband. Grieving who, though, he doesn't mention, and Kirill doesn't ask.

It's only when his new employer raises her lovely head and stares at him as if at a ghost that he wonders if he made the wrong decision; horror like that isn't something he has prepared to deal with.
