Ripley had never been one to daydream or dwell. Even prior to everything she'd been one to take charge, do the job and move on.
That, however, didn't mean she couldn't sppreciate things. And at that particular moment, she was appreciating Corporal Dwayne Hicks. The way his eyes swept the corridor, the way his hands held his gun in a deceptively loose manner, the way the muscles of his shoulders shifted beneath his shirt. He reminded her of pictures she'd seen as a child of wolves, rangy and alert, always watching.
She wondered how it would feel to have that focus switched to her, those hands on her.
She glanced up and noticed that he was looking at her with the same amount of intensity that she'd been using to study him.
Then he smirked.
She smirked.
And it occurred to her, she wasn't dwelling and it wasn't merely appreciation.
