I would really appreciate it if yall bought the book or were able to stop by the release party. I'm ridiculously thrilled with this group of writers and artists - just a really great group of people to work with. :)

Hope you enjoy it!

So had a pretty darned productive day so far, though no writing has been accomplished as yet. Mostly a Caity babble entry but feel free to read at will lol.

I got off work early today (as I am FINALLY caught up after being sick.. at this rate I may actually get my department ahead before I have my week of for Christmas) to do some Christmas shopping. Managed to snag gifts for three people, my mom, my aunt (who I drew for our family Secret Santa), and [livejournal.com profile] askita who already knows what she's getting lol. I had 3 other people to shop for before our family Christmas on Saturday, but unfortunately those gifts were a total bust. I really really suck at buying gifts guys. There's a reason I tend to ask for specific things to look for. Blah.

Anyway, came home, paid bills, bought another gift online. Then forced my ass off the couch and managed to get some domestic type stuff done including trimming the kitten's claws, sweeping, starting a load of laundry, and even repairing the faucet knob in my shower and re-hanging a toilet paper holder. I felt all proud of that let me tell ya - not only did I have the proper tools needed, but I even knew what said tools were called! (Hex-key and Phillips head screw drivers btw). Go me being all Handy Cait and stuff.

I may or may not have a friend coming over - her phone has been fried so I didn't get a for sure on our weekly girl night. If she does show, the writing will probably not happen tonight, but I am determined to get something done if we don't hang out.

And can I just say, the Secret Santas are annoying the crap out of me. It's not that I don't like the stories I'm writing, I just have no push TO write them. I dunno - the Supernatural SS is definitely out of my comfort zone, so I could kinda understand the slow rate on that one, but the Primeval one? Totally had the oppurtunity to write one of my go-to pairings AND got to incorporate one of my favorite cliche tropes. That one at least should be working great for me! And god knows I seem to be flying through [livejournal.com profile] fandom_stocking stuff, so I'm not sure what the fuck my problem is.

Hell maybe it's that the SSs were assigned to me where the fandom_stocking stuff is all damned near at random. Plus it has the "random acts of fannish glee" mentality which is probably helping too. *headdesk*

Gah, I just need to get some progress done on those soon. There are deadlines approaching and I really need to try NOT to miss them!
hiddencait: (Default)
So had another set of random really nice things happen today (intermixed with a bit of bad news, but I'm willing to go with the majority here!), and I thought I would share.

First, the owner of our company actually quoted the little book "Everything I Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten." Specifically, the section about Friday afternoons being better with cookies and milk. Which he bought for all of us in the office. And sure enough, Friday afternoon was better for them!

Next I found a box in my mailbox containing another box of awesome. All pretty shaped and stained and inscribed and just made of win. We've discussed how much I love mail, so no surprise that I squeed like a loon for that one!

Finally had the bonus of a couple neighbor kids coming around door to door to mow front lawns. For $5 dollars. No really, it was two of them and they only asked for 5 bucks. I gave them 7 and was thrilled about it. They also gave me their number as they do a variety of odd jobs of that sort. This will save me having to buy a lawn mower for quite a while I think, and save me labor when I fianlly put in a flower bed in the front of my house!

So yeah, pretty good day!  I'm getting ready to re-settle into writing for the evening. My goal is to have the next chapter of Hart of Wonderland done by the end of the weekend, so wish me luck.

I'm also still (and probably for a while) taking prompts for the Tell Me a Story meme, and I'll prolly work on those in between bouts of batshit crazy Cheshire. 'Course at least one calls for a slight crazy River with alcohol....

*suddenly feels she needs some whiskey to get through these crazies*

I've decided I'm going to keep a running tally here on what I managed to work on each day with individual wordcounts for each separate project, as well as the total count for the day. Here goes nothing!

- Finishing "Once Was Blind" Allison songfic for [livejournal.com profile] primeval_vsx 687 words
-Pair of drabbles for the "Silence" challenge at [livejournal.com profile] faketvnetwork 511 words
-Finishing up the Trick or Treat Drabbles 591 work

Grand Total for the Day: 1789!

(I think I'm going to like this system!)

Hey guys, I just thought I'd share something that I'm bouncing off the walls about...

I'm now officially published!

A group of friends and I took part in creating an ebook that was released yestarday. It's a collection of short  horror/thriller themed short stories just in time for Halloween. All stories start with "It was a dark and stormy night..." and I think we got a great collection completed.  Mine is "Territorial" and it features Brian from "Our Own Private Zoo."

All the proceeds are going to the Texas Wildfire Relief fund by the way. So you can get an ebook and support a good cause!

Here's the link to the ebook: It's currently only available for purchase through Smashwords, but it's pending approval for Amazon, as well.

http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/100639

(Please forgive the relative babbling of this announcement - I'm just about giddy frankly!)

So after finding out my work schedules going to need to be more intense than ususal, and after NOT finishing my other novel this weekend like I'd hoped, I was very close to dropping out of NaNo all together.

However, after some discussion with my betacreature Askita, I think I'm going to continue to do the challenge just in a much different way.

My goal for November: 50,000 words as per the challenge.

However, I'm opening that up to ALL of my writing for this month, be it finishing my novel, Taking Eden, or even fanfiction. My goal is just to write like a fiend and keep track of all of the totals.

*nods* I think I can do this.

Hmm, now I wonder if I should plan some kind of uber prize for myself if I pull it off... *ponders*
hiddencait: (Default)
OKAY FOLKS! So my muse kicked into high gear on my novel, and I think I can half the rough draft done this weekish. No really. So yeah, that means I CAN in fact do NaNoWriMo as I have the past 4 years in a row which is awesome.[Poll #1789728]

So yeah, help a sister out here guys! And comments have been known to sway me away from the tally.. just a warning/bribe lol.

Also!!! If you are joining in on the NaNo insanity - let me know who you are and I will friend ya there!
hiddencait: (Default)
So I managed all of 600 words last night. Not as much as I hoped, but still better than nothing at all. I've come to the conclusion that I really have a hard time focusing solely on one  project even when it's just for the 4 days I've given myself to finish this. I almost get resentful that I can't go play on something else. Even when I don't even have something else specific that I WANT to work on lol.

Thus, I'm putting out the call for a repeat of the FakeTV Meme!

(Yes I KNOW I have like.. 5 already. But they make me happy. And really, if I can't have the Caitastrophe network on my TV, I should at least get to have it on LJ. So there.)

Really it's easy and fun and all that it requires from all of you is a cast list of 7 actors/actresses that you want to see me turn into a FakeTV show. I'll give you a show premise and 7 characters decriptions. Really it's just that simple. You can even give me a show genre if you really want to make my brain work.

Basically, this is just total brain candy for me. I can do a short 100-200 word character description in no time, and I'll reward myself with one character every 500 words or so I manage on my het_bigbang. Plus, FakeTV rides this line between fanfiction and original fiction somehow. It's the fun of fanfiction with a little of the more personal pride that I get my my original fiction too. Just awesome.

You can ask me for 7 actors too if you want to join in!

BTW, I would LOVE to see a FakeTVBigBang take place. There are so many of us who have shows now, and they just sorta sit out in the ether without any love. Seriously, there are a ton of them that I want to see come to life in a longer story.  Unfortunately I've never worked at a mod on any community or challenge, so I'd be clueless on how to pull it off. So I guess the questions would be thus:

1. Would you even join the challenge if I can make it happen?

and

2. Can anybody help me with the moderators stuffs?

(BTW, I'm swamped and have a major project to finish by the end of the year AFTER I finish my het_bigbang, so Sign Ups probably wouldnt' be right away.)
hiddencait: (Default)
OK guys, here's the deal. I am stuck at 21,135 on my het_bigbang, and frankly I HAVE TO GET THE DAMN THING FINISHED!!! I only have one last chapter in Hick's POV to do, but it's been fighting me, and by God it's time for me to win the battle.

So yeah, I WILL have a completed rough draft by this weekend. Cuz my beta needs time to get through the whole thing, and I want time for final edits after that, and the whole thing has to be turned in by the 24th.

Just a heads up for yall though, I'm going silent until the draft is done. I'll probably answer comments, but I'm flat out deleting any journals that come in my email update. I'll have a lot of LJ to catch up with later but oh well.

Interestingly, my internet at home has chosen to go down right now too. This is probably a good thing, huh?

AU Meme!

Sep. 3rd, 2011 11:48 pm
hiddencait: (Default)
Stolen from Sallymn!

Give me one fandom I write/rec/read AND a type of AU (space opera AU, pirate AU, superhero AU, etc) or another time period (Ancient Rome, Regency England, etc). I will then explain the gist of the story I would write for that AU.

...and will probably end up plot bunnied... but so be it!
hiddencait: (Default)
So, I was doing the math in my head and realized just how many writing projects I really wanted to try to do this weekend. It's a little scarey, but hey it's only Thursday. I can do this.

1. Hit 20k on "From the Last to the First" - this was terrifying to think of on Monday, but as I just hit 18k last night, this is totally doable.

2. Next chapter of Hart of Wonderland - I haven't managed to write much on HoW during the week this month, but weekend mornings seem to rock in my Primeval/Alice brain, so not worried about this one really either!

(The rest of these are in no particular order really. I just put numbers because they make it look all pretty and organized.)

3. Primeval ficlet for Kyle Michaels during Convergence - I've been talking this one up to whuffle like crazy, and she made me the pretty icon, so I ought to actually get going on this!

4. Doom 5 places fic for askita for a belated B-day fic: This one has been in my brain for over a year now, and damned if I don't want it just down on paper and out of my to-do list lol.

5. Steampunk drabble for alex_kade - no definite fandom for this yet so it could be a bit exciting. We'll see lol.

6. "Working Title" Challenge fic for M7Land - technically have till the 26th for this, so there's a good chance this'll get pushed to the end of the list.

7. River/Riddick "after the fight" kissmeme drabble for askita - as this is 2nd for her in my to-do list, this may also wait a bit. Assuming the muse agrees with my logic.

8. New FakeTV for urbancate tentatively titled "Period Drama" - this has been on the backburner for a while so I really want to get it done. I figure I can do one character profile in between all the other ficstuff and make some easy headweay.

So... umm.. did I miss anything? Is anyone waiting on drabble requests I somehow lost in the shuffle? Is anyone WANTING a drabble request? lol Let me know guys!
hiddencait: (Default)
Hey look.. me procrastinating.. who'd guess it?

Anyway! There were several of my friends who posted this so there are more than one of you to blame lol.

A meme, grabbed from everywhere:

If I made Cinderella, the audience would immediately be looking for a body in the coach.
                                                                 — Alfred Hitchcock

When I write a story, what do you immediately look for?
hiddencait: (Default)
... why yes I'm borrowing [livejournal.com profile] seren_ccd's normal format for journals.. why not? lol

1. Murphy hates me. Him and his stupid law can totally kiss my butt. For those of you who didn't know, I recently bought a house, and I swear I've had to do repair after repair after repair on totally random things. This time, it was my washing machine. It's dead. As in time to go buy a new one. I guess it's good my work clothes are clean... mostly? *headdesk*

2. Sorta kinda coming out of my funk thanks to some really sweet words from Seren regarding my het_bigbang fic (and yes I will be answering your email as soon as yahoo stops arguing with me!) so that rocks. Plus my beta [livejournal.com profile] askita gave me yet another awesome cast list, which brings me to...

3. MOAR FakeTV! Yeah, this format may be taking over my brain. What can I say: it's just such an awesome way to get the muse moving. Plus, since it's characters and a concept all at once and down on paper, I can then step back and work on other things. The plotbunny then won't drive me backs, but I can come back to it whenever! This 4th (gah 4th! I'm insane) cast list even had the delicious Karl Urban, as well as half a dozen other incredibly attractive people for me to play with. This should be good! Oh! And this time I apparently will have theme songs for everyone too lol.

4. That gives me another thought: what do yall think of a possible FakeTV comm? And if yall are game, is anybody willing to help set it up? I'm pretty seriously LJ illiterate or I'd do it myself. But just think! One relatively central location for all of these awesome memes. And FakeTV fanfic. Really what's not to like?

5.  Ummm... hmm. Not sure I have a number 5. Though, I did get a new foster mutt. Gambit, Rogue, and I now have a 125 lb lab/something cross named Bennie living with us as well. He's so freaking sweet it makes my teeth hurt!!!
hiddencait: (Default)

So, I've managed to finish the first "chapter" or so of my Big Bang fic finally and have moved on to the 2nd. I'm not sure how proud I'm feeling of my progress though. It's up to 4K, which while cool I have 4K, is there not quite as far as I'd hoped to be right now. Plus, I'm almost worried it's sounding boring so far.

The first chapter is in Hicks' POV, and then I'm switching to Ripleys. Weirdly enough, I felt more comfortable in Hicks' head than her's. Usually I have a hell of a time writing from a male POV, so maybe that's throwing me a bit.

Blah, I don't really know. Maybe I'm just in a blah mood in general and thus am not feeling as proud of it so far. I think I could use a little cheerleading to pull me out of the funk frankly.

That said: would anyone like to take a look at what I have so far? I'd have to email it to you, of course, but I'd be grateful as hell.  My beta-of-awesomeness [livejournal.com profile] askita hasnt' seen Aliens in years, so she's just not quite comfortable betaing/bouncing ideas with me just yet.

Let me know if you want to look. Thankies.
hiddencait: (Default)
This was totally stolen from [livejournal.com profile] seren_ccd

The first TEN people to comment in this post get to request that I write a drabble of any pairing/character of their choosing. In return, they have to post this in their journal, regardless of their ability level. (If you absolutely can't write, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to offer drawings or icons or something instead.) Note: it will probably work better if it's a set of characters I've familiar with, but I'm even up for netflixing something new if need be. *grin*

I will be totally honest though, I'm on limited internet access, so the drabbles may take a few days, but they will arrive!

Who's first?
hiddencait: (Default)
So, [livejournal.com profile] askita said she was doing a drabble ficlet collection, and I decided to jump on the bandwagon! Only.. possibly more so. There are 100 prompts below, and I plan to do a John/Angel drabble for each of them in order. I might possiblely be psychotic but that's OK.

Note: since I'm going crazy, I think all of you should as well! So I challenge you, you, and you over there in the back! *beam*

The Rules

1.) Make 100 drabbles with each having a theme listed below. Each should have ONE and only ONE theme to it, for it to count.

2.) No time limit-so have fun!

3.) Your drabbles should be of your own artistic ability. Just have fun with it.

4.) The list below is to be placed somewhere in your journal for others to see that-
a.) You are in the challenge
b.) What you have completed

5.) Make sure to update this list and check off what is done.

6.) In the comments for your art work, note if it is part of the list and what ONE theme it is.

So, this year I have once again thrown myself into the madness that is National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo for those of us in the know.) And much to my surprise, it's already going pretty damn well. I decided to pick up where I left off last year on Angel's Proxy. Considering the lay offs and moving and new jobs that hit right in the middle of the month, I had only reached 20k or so, and I figured that wouldn't be too hard to change about if I went totally off course in the long run.

Currently, Day 3 has begun and I'm sitting at a comfortable 4,268 words. I'm ahead of what I "need" to be, but I planned it that way. Being the brilliant chica that I am, I managed to plan a trip out of town for every SINGLE weekend in November. So yeah, I'll need all the make up words I can get.

In any case, I'm really stinking excited just to actually get more written on Proxy. Considering the story (and it's fallen angel main guy) is very near and dear to my heart, I'd really been down on myself for leaving it alone for so long.

Granted, I was honestly afraid of getting to the moment where I had to kill off a main character or two, but thanks to fanfiction, I've managed to force myself past that point. Here's hoping I can remind myself of that when the time comes!

In any case, NaNo = love = Caity shall have no life.
hiddencait: (Default)

So, since I realized I've been on a bit of a fanfic writing roll, I decided I should probably prioritize my to-do list a bit! (yeah, possibly [livejournal.com profile] askita 's idea lol)

1. Doom: Handle ID Angel (can be repeated as many times as possible in as many places on the list as possible until the damn thing gets done lol)

2. Character Building Exercises/ Plot solidifying for Angel's Proxy as gearing up for Nanomadness.

3. Bourne Supremacy: Kirill/ Anonymous OFC 1 night stand fic (because I can, and because there are only TWELVE on ffn.. which is tragic. In progress)

4. Star Trek Reboot: Bones/Chapel trying to get pregnant requested smut (in progress)

5. Doom: John/Sam anything goes request for [personal profile] chase_acow  (ala male/female twins being reincarnated lovers)

6. Doom Time-verse: 5 Places Firefly and John Liked to Visit, and 1 Place They Never Returned to for askita

7. Doom (non-Angel verse): 5 Times John Grimm Didn't Die, and 1 Time He Wished He Could

8. King Arthur: Perhaps dive back into Hawk Visions

9. NaNo once November startes: Proxy Proxy Proxy dammit!!!

hiddencait: (Default)
So, I've been mostly without internet at home since.. oh.. Thursday? And man.. as much as I hate to be netless and  get a little twitchy, I definitely get more shit done when it's off!

So on the list of fics I've been working on, mostly simultaneously as my ADD muse has now turned into an ADHD muse, and I've had at least 4 files open at one time, all weekend:

Chapter 10 of Handle ID Angel, my Doom fanfic: 2100 wordsish, finished and posted over at ffn (I suppose I should like to that eventually huh?)

A Bourne Supremacy Kirill/Anonymous OFC oneshot: 2200 words and no where near finished

Chapter 11 of Handle ID Angel: 800 words and coming along really fast now that I've hit the action.

The last chapter of my Tin Man ficlet series that I've been trying to finish since last year: 600 words and counting.

Smut Star Trek request for the now dead kink_meme: 300 words and counting.

So yeah, I think my muse is in a good mood. How bout yall? lol

Stolen from my buddy Ladydove7 over at www.deviantart.com
With as stressy as things have been getting lately with deadlines and such, I thought we could use a break with something completely different! So I present to you, the new, improved kooky character quiz! Be warned! Your characters will never be the same again!

Character Name: Her R.R.T.S. Handle ID is Angel. Only John and Sarge know her real name.
Age: 29...possibly forever.
Species/Race: Human.. ish.
Piercings/Tattoos: Only her ears are pierced. Strangely enough, she's phobic of needles.

1. What kind of modern music would your character like? Any specific group or band? Or would they hate music?
Angel's into anything she can dance to: Pop, R&B, even rock on occasion.

2. If your character had a theme song, what specific pre-existing song would it be?
"Downfall" by Matchbox Twent (freaking love this song and it's SO appropriate some how)

3. If your character had a speaking or singing voice, what actor or singer would they sound like? Can your character sing at all?
Her speaking voice is a mid alto has just a hint of a Texas twang as she went to college and Basic at Fort Sam Houston. She can sing relatively well, but nothing to write home about.

4. If you were to cast a movie of your character's story, what actor would play them?
Umm hmm that's a toughy: considering she's an "everywoman," she could literally be absolutely anyone.

5. If your character could play an instrument, what would it be?
Considering her manual dexterity, I can see her playing the piano...but only if forced.

6. What is their favorite meal?
Anything NOT served in the R.R.T.S. mess hall.

7. If your character was in a high school drama, what subject in school would they have been the best in? What about the worst?
Angel would rock at biology me thinks, and totally suck at math.

8. What normal, everyday job would your character have if he or she were in modern times?
Welp, she's an epidemiologist and badass Marine. Not so normal, but it works for her.

9. What would their favorite hobby be if they were in normal, every-day, modern times?
Her hobbies currently include going out dancing and shopping with her favorite gay.

10. What pasta or fruit could your character's endowments be compared to? (ie. For guys: angel hair noodle, penne, thick spaghetti, etc. For gals, apples, melons, watermelons, etc. Hey...just answer the question!)
Ummm probably about a half a cantalopeish... per side of course lol

I wanna see what yall come up with!!
