Thoughts on Holiday
They still hadn’t gone on that trip to the beach, nor had Connor managed to get Abby into a bikini even if only on a whim. By the time they got back, it was barely a memory, and certainly not one that really mattered, he realized.
Back before, back B.C. (as in Before Cretaceous or so Connor couldn’t help but think of that time in the privacy of his own mind), the thought of Abby wearing such a thing at his request, just for him to look at and just because he’d asked – well that was the height of achievement there. A proper fantasy, if he did say so.
Now though, after their year away and their return and growth apart… Now, in the ashes of New Dawn and the madness that was the ARC and rebuilding their program yet again… Now, with their bond forged anew, well a skimpy little bikini didn’t really count for much.
Well, it certainly counted. It was still a delicious little mental image all skin and sun and sand. He was a bloke, after all. It just didn’t count nearly as much, not when compared her laid out in their bed with that sleepy grin on her face, or up to her chin in a warm bath, or… well or just about anywhere now that she was his and vice versus. He’d been her’s for quite a bit longer, of course, but that didn’t matter much either now that it was reciprocated it. He’d gladly be her’s if she was his, too. He’d sometimes catch himself in his lab just contemplating how amazing it was that one little word could toss all his fantasies just out the window. “His.” It had a beautiful sound to it.
Their new “togetherness” pulling up as the trump card didn’t mean the beach was out of the question, though. No, not in the slightest. They just hadn’t managed to make it there yet. Yet. That was another word he was quite enjoying: all the good things that hadn’t happened yet. Because everyone knew “yet” just meant “will” at a thus far un-disclosed date and time. Granted, with their particular place of employment, finding time for a holiday was a bit more complicated than for the regular office worker.
Still, it would happen. Abby had said she would, so someday they will. It’s just that simple.
