A random AU that bounced in my head had her cast is probably the most perfect way: The Patchwork Girl ala Oz. She's been so many people so many times both during and after the Red Room phase of her life, that most days Tasha isn't totally sure who she really is.
That doesn't particularly matter to her as much as it does to the few people she trusts. They spend their time helping her seek out moments of personal identity and preference (Clint was the one who helped her figure out she really truly loves old Hepburn movies - particularly the musicals), and she spends her time making sure she knows her men better than herself. Clint and Coulson are her talismans and touchstones - as long as they are themselves, she can begin to understand who they see in her.
