Yuletide Recap Ahoy!
Jan. 1st, 2020 02:09 pm This was an awesome Yuletide for me with me successfully writing a full gift (the longest I've done yet for Yuletide) and a crossover treat that I loved to pieces! I also got two lovely fics, as well. Just a lot of fun as always. I'm still so SO far behind on reading my way through the archive, but I will make headway eventually. Probably. LOL
So my actual assignment was filled with "The Makings of a Wasteland Queen" - a Dredd 2012 fic focused on the Cursed Earth and an AU where Cassandra was never scouted as a child for the Academy after her parents died and how she would survive on her own. I freaking LOVED this prompt, and dove in. I had hoped to actually pull off a non-linear format but didn't quite manage it and switched it back to chronological on the advice of my darling beta @seren-pen https://archiveofourown.org/works/21822049 I hope y'all enjoy it if you wander over, but my giftee seemed happy and that was the important big!
The treat I completed was "Moral Dilemmas and Other Topics of Conversation" - I actually saw the prompt over in the Two for One Challenge Dreamwidth post asking for Expanse meets Black Sails. I went all anon and as subtly as I could found out the prompters fave characters from the two series and thus a conversation in a brothel practically wrote itself. My darling Black Sails AsheBones rowboat friend MarieTurtle wrote me a gorgeous AU for Arminius and Thusnelda from Barbarians Rising. It's one of the Tom Hopper microfandoms of my heart and I was so thrilled by the stunning fic I got for them! https://archiveofourown.org/works/21828247
The other fic I got was a fabulous spot on voiced fic for Conrad and Weaver from Kong: Skull Island that seriously sounded like a missing scene from after the movie. Just brilliantly done and a great surprise to have in my inbox! https://archiveofourown.org/works/21833173
So yeah, this year continues my experience of Yuletide being my fave exchange all year. Looking forward to nominations opening up next year, and I should have at least one belated treat for the News Years Resolution collection for the first time!
